SHANGHAI, Aug 31 (SMM) - Recently, the People's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region issued the “Notice on Printing and Distributing the Overall Plan for Mineral Resources of the Autonomous Region (2021-2025)” (hereinafter referred to as the “Plan”).
The “Plan” proposes that it is necessary for Inner Mongolia, an important energy resource base, to increase the investment in geological survey and exploration, which mainly deals with the investigation, evaluation and exploration of oil and gas, rare earth, minor and scattered minerals as well as iron, copper, nickel, and other bulk resources to ensure the energy supply in China. By 2025, the supply guarantee system for coal, rare earth, copper, gold and other important minerals will be more perfect, the layout of exploration and development areas will be more reasonable, and the exploration and development of mineral resources and environmental protection will be more coordinated, to form a new pattern of green exploration and development. The Inner Mongolia government will steadily promote the construction of coal, rare earth and other energy resource bases and the nationally planned mining areas. The annual output of coal in the region is about 1 billion mt, and the production of rare earth oxides and tungsten is in accordance with the national target. The local government will build an important research and development and production base for new rare earth materials in Baotou City where the rare earth resources are abundant to strengthen the efficient utilisation of rare earth resources.
The base will give full play to the advantages of Baotou's rich rare earth resources and its complete industrial system, as well as the research and development, inspection and testing advantages of scientific research institutions such as the State Key Laboratory of Baiyunobo Rare Earth Resource Researches and Comprehensive Utilisation to strengthen the research and development of key common technologies.
The “Plan” also encourages metal minerals to introduce the high-end enterprises integrating “mining, dressing, smelting, and processing” and promotes the in-depth integration of industry, academia, and research in the mining field to lead the formation of innovative consortia. Moreover, it will increase the research on the application of rare earth elements, efficiently and greenly develop the rare earth resources in Baiyunobo, improve the recovery rate of mining, ore dressing and the comprehensive utilisation rate, promote the efficient separation and extraction of rare earth, iron, niobium, scandium and other co-associated resources, and create an entire industry chain including exploration, development, utilisation and recycling.
