Comparison of NdFeB annual production capacity and the proportion of production area and market distribution

At present, sintered NdFeB is still the most widely used rare earth permanent magnet material with the highest output in China. In 2019, the output of semifinished sintered NdFeB in China was 170000 tons, an increase of 9.7% compared with that in 2018, accounting for 94.3% of the domestic output of rare earth permanent magnet materials. The output of bonded NdFeB was 0.79 tons, 5% higher than that in 2018, accounting for 4.4%. In recent years, China's NdFeB production capacity is still in the trend of continuous growth, and the overall capacity is in the state of excess, but the high-end market capacity supply is insufficient. In terms of production capacity distribution, Zhejiang, Shanxi, Shandong and Shanxi are the main producing areas of NdFeB in China, accounting for 70.35% of the total production capacity of the market. Among them, Zhejiang Province has significant advantages in terms of industrial concentration. The application of high-performance NdFeB can be divided into two categories: traditional applications such as consumer electronics and basic industries, and emerging applications such as new energy, energy conservation and environmental protection. At present, the traditional automotive sector accounts for the highest proportion of high-performance NdFeB permanent magnet materials in China, reaching 37.5%. In addition, the new energy vehicle sector drives the largest demand, accounting for 11.8% of the total, and wind power accounts for 10%. In wind turbines, high-performance NdFeB magnets are used for direct drive and semi direct drive permanent magnets. In recent years, China's wind power industry is likely to pick up. In 2019, China's total wind power grid connected installed capacity is 21.05 million kilowatts. In this context, the penetration rate of direct drive permanent magnet motor continues to increase, which will promote the consumption of high-end NdFeB in the wind power field. Driven by the development of strategic emerging industries such as new energy, energy conservation and environmental protection industry, China's NdFeB manufacturing technology has improved rapidly, and the proportion of high-performance NdFeB will gradually increase.
